I just completed Leadership Effectiveness Training by Thomas Gordon. It was recommended reading for leaders at my company. It’s a book from the late 70’s that seems to have shaped modern leadership thinking. I found in it many things that I just grew up learning about leadership, but I did not know from where they came. My favorite portion of the book is Gordon’s one page credo, which I printed and placed on my wall as a reminder of the leader and person I want to be (and for daily inspiration).
This book is about a 2.5 stars out of 5 these days, simply because most of what it communicates has now been adopted by modern managers. Had I read it back in the 70’s or 80’s, I might have given it a full 5 stars, based on the older mindsets of the time that it describes. It has lots of meat and a little bit of potatoes.
I tend to listen or read business or technical books all the time. You can see…
